State Vegetable
The State Vegetable is, the Walla Walla Sweet Onion! This onion is only grown in the Walla Walla Valley. Its origins are of the islands of Corsica, where a French soldier found a sweet onion seed and brought it to the Walla Walla Valley. The onion did well in the Walla Walla climate. The season for the sweet onion is from mid-June through September.
Walla Walla is about 1 hour away from the greater Tri-City area. (48 miles). Besides the State Vegetable, numerous wineries and vineyards find their home there. Walla Walla is fast becoming well known for their red wines.
